What are the responsibilities and job description for the Card Services Assistant position at Michigan United Credit Union?
The primary role of the Card Services Assistant position is to assist with establishing and maintaining the Credit Union’s plastic card programs by utilizing generally accepted accounting principles along with compliance with Federal Regulations and guidelines; The Card Services Assistant must maintain a high level of member service while ensuring compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
1. Serve members’ needs by handling credit, debit, and/or ATM card inquiries over the phone or in person and process financial transactions.
2. Provide account information to members, open new plastic card accounts, and field additional member requests relating to plastic cards.
3. Assist members, employees, and authorized parties with information regarding delinquent and/or negative accounts, as well as credit, debit, and ATM cards. Respond to problems and complaints in a timely manner.
4. Assist with the administration of centralized credit card ordering, card reissue, dispute resolution, card maintenance and fraud research with third party processor.
5. Monitor regulatory changes and other trends and developments in the debit and credit card industry and recommend changes to ensure continued program effectiveness.
6. Responsible for reporting to VISA, and any other government agencies as well as outside vendors and business clients insuring timeliness and accuracy.
7. Assist with the preparation of the card programs for mergers by reviewing reports, sending letters, closing inactive cards, etc.
8. Processes, solves and answers complex member transactions, or department problems or inquiries. Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority. Responds to inquiries or refers inquiries to the appropriate department or person.
9. Cross sell automated services such as ACH, Direct Deposit, insurance products, and Automatic Transfer to assure recurring payments. Utilizing the various card platforms and websites.
10. Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
11. Strictly adheres to MUCU organizational and operational policies and procedures including Attendance, Tardiness and Chain of Command (Open Door and Problem Solving) in order to not place undue hardship on MUCU members and staff.
12. Cross sells credit union products and services to current and potential members based on goals determined by management.
13. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent with two or more years of work-related experience. Work related experience should consist of member service and/or lending background.
- Knowledge of general accounting, and plastic card services systems in a financial institution.
- Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and Credit Union accounting policies and procedures.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret various documents and forms. Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
- Demonstrated ability to cross-sell and explain all credit union products and services with confidence and authority.
- Basic skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, including word-processing, spreadsheet and account opening software programs. Basic math skills, including, but not limited to the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, and speak clearly to members.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
