What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Services Representative position at Michigan United Credit Union?
The primary role of this position is to communicate effectively and build sustainable relationships with our members by assisting with their credit union needs. Our Financial Service Representatives (FSR) are responsible for providing superior member service and sales to enhance member relationships and exceed member expectations. FSRs assist members with basic financial questions and concerns, set up new accounts, originate and close loans, and actively promote MUCU products and services that best meet our members’ financial needs while providing outstanding professional service.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Assists members and potential members with their requests, answers questions about products and services. Resolves problems that are within their authority.
- Assists members with basic financial transactions and opens new accounts, including business, special type and IRA accounts. Responsible for possessing a working knowledge of all membership accounts and services and performs account maintenance when necessary. Promotes credit union products and services, recognizes and acts upon referral opportunities to achieve organizational and branch goals.
- Interviews loan applicants, gathers and verifies required information/documents for credit application and successful closing. Explains loan options, rates, terms and collateral requirements. Promotes ancillary insurance products in a professional manner.
- Maintains adequate, accurate and proper documentation and records for all credit union related business. This includes but is not limited to all member account, lending and maintenance documents/forms.
- Promptly disburses loan proceeds to the member, as required, making sure the member is thoroughly familiar with all terms of the loan (scheduled payments, payment method, due dates, collateral/security, rates and any other conditions associated with the loan).
- Refers problems that are beyond their authority to the appropriate manager, along with their recommendations. Identifies members’ needs and recommends solutions that may help our members meet their financial goals.
- Maintains up to date knowledge on all remote services offered to members, such as loan payment options, online banking, ARU, bill pay, remote deposit, CU website, and any secure forms.
- Provides member support to branch and call center staff as needed. Including processing member requests and performing account and loan file maintenance.
- Follows policies and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Member Identification Program (MIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
- Strictly adheres to MUCU organizational policies and procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

- High School Diploma and two (2) or more years of related financial experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work-related experience should consist of a background in cash operations in a financial institution. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum applicable to the financial industry.
- Strong intermediate to advanced skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation and word processing and spreadsheet software programs such as Microsoft Office products.
- The ability to complete tasks thoroughly and accurately, while paying close attention to all aspects, no matter how small.
- Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
- Strong intermediate to advanced math skills; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, decimals; locate routine transactional and/or mathematical errors with an understanding of financial debits and credits.
- Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to members and employees.
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work with little supervision while performing duties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
