The primary role of the Teller is to provide outstanding service to members by performing transactional duties by receiving or paying out funds with a high degree of accuracy while maintaining accurate transaction records in accordance with credit union policies and procedures. The Teller is also responsible for presenting and explaining a basic number of credit union products and services to members. The Teller must also have the ability to work as a team member, and be able to communicate effectively with the member while maintaining a commitment to providing accurate and efficient service to the membership.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all credit union products and services, including, but not limited to: savings accounts, certificates of deposit, IRA & HSA programs, share draft programs, ATM/Debit card services, audio telephone, internet banking, wire transfer rules and procedures, direct deposit, and payroll deduction.
  • Perform routine member transactions, including, but not limited to: deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, loan advances, credit card payments, credit card advances, transfers, check cashing, night drop, mail payments, and money orders.
  • Ensure all member transactions are posted accurately, efficiently and within credit union policies and procedures. Obtain supervisor approval for any transactions that are outside employee’s assigned limit parameters. Properly complete a Currency Transaction Report and Suspicious Activity Report if applicable.
  • Obtains ID verifications, OFAC information, and other necessary information for member and non-member transactions. Verifies and analyzes the information as necessary for prudent and proper determination of transaction validity.
  • Responsible for balancing cash drawer at the end of the day and comparing the totaled amount to the core processor generated tally. Research and resolve any outages and report any unresolved outages to the head teller.
  • Provide routine information on credit union products and services including eligibility for membership, types of credit union accounts, fee schedule, loan.
  • Responsible for receiving members on the telephone or in person and handling the transactions requested, or directing the member to the proper person, and ensuring that all requests for services by members are processed in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Cross-sell insurance products offered by the credit union.
  • Serve as back up to the Member Services Department.
  • Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
  • Strictly adheres to MUCU organizational and operational policies and procedures including Attendance, Tardiness and Chain of Command (Open Door and Problem Solving) in order to not place undue hardship on MUCU members and staff.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • High school graduate or equivalent with one or more years of work related experience. Work related experience should consist of cash handling and/or teller background.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret various documents and forms.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell and explain all credit union products and services with confidence and authority.
  • Basic skills in personal computer operation, including word-processing and account processing software. Basic math skills, including, but not limited to the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using whole numbers, and decimals.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, understand procedures, and speak clearly to members.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 per hour
