POSITION OVERVIEW
The Business Services Representative (BSR) will market the Michigan Works! Service Centers to the employers in the area and educate them regarding services available. In addition, the BSR will develop and maintain meaningful employer contacts that result in quality employment opportunities and economic growth. The BSR will be responsible for implementing the Michigan Works! Business Solutions Professional system that provides a portfolio of workforce development services to the business community. The BSR will work closely with economic development and post-secondary education entities to assist and coordinate services, provide information, and act as the liaison with the Michigan Works! Service Centers. The open position will cover the Detroit area.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to assist with hiring and training needs.
· Coordinate and manage large-scale hiring projects for employers
· Perform searches for qualified candidates according to relevant job criteria using computer databases, networking, Internet recruiting resources, cold calls, media, recruiting firms, and employee referrals.
· Work as part of a team that may include case managers and instructors to facilitate placement opportunities for job seekers
· Interview customers to obtain information on work history, training, education, potential barriers, and job skills and to match qualifications with employer needs.
· Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
· Conduct workshops and demonstrate the use of job listings to assist customers.
· Instruct customers in presenting a positive image by providing help with resume writing, personal appearance guidelines, cover letters, thank you letters, interview preparation and interview techniques, and workshop referrals. Review participants’ resumes and assist with resume building and revisions utilizing strengths-based planning, ONET career tools and website, transferrable skills assessments, etc.
· Keep records and prepare reports for management concerning programs, services, and customers.
· Evaluate individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews, and professional sources concerning potential employment opportunities.
· Track and verify placements, retentions, and follow-ups.
· Enter electronic case notes on each participant's MIS statewide reporting system, detailing all contacts, meetings, and activities as they occur at least every two weeks.
· Respond to participant contacts via telephone, email, and in person in a timely fashion; and initiate contact with the participant regularly to develop and maintain a consistent and supportive relationship.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree
· Ability to meet deadlines.
· Attention to detail.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Demonstrate high organizational skills and the ability to self-manage and prioritize a dynamic workload.
· Ability to deal with multiple levels of people effectively in group and individual settings
