Trailer Repair Technician – Brake Mechanical Focus
The Trailer Repair Technician works in a fast-paced repair facility, focusing on brake systems and mechanical repair functions. This technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various trailer brake systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, with a particular emphasis on brake repair and maintenance, as well as experience with welding and structural repair. The Technician should be skilled in using various types of hand tools, air power tools, and welding equipment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain trailer brake systems, including air brakes, hydraulic brakes, and components.
- Perform welding (GMAW) on steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials to repair or modify trailer structures.
- Use hand and air power tools (grinders, impact gun, floor jacks, etc.) to repair mechanical components.
- Conduct inspections and repairs on hydraulic and electrical systems as they relate to trailer brake operations.
- Read and interpret work orders and blueprints to complete repairs according to specifications.
- Cut and shape metal using shears, plasma cutters, and saws to fabricate or modify parts related to brake systems and trailer bodies.
Required Education, Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with an emphasis on brake systems repair and maintenance.
- Previous experience in trailer brake repair (air and hydraulic) is highly preferred.
- Welding experience, with the ability to pass on-site welding tests (GMAW).
- Ability to read and accurately measure using a tape measure down to 1/16th.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; ASE Certification preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, carrying out work in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, work orders, and written directions.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to communicate clearly
- Requires ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, crawl, and kneel
- Specific vision ability required includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision with depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Manufacturing work environment that has frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, noise intensity level, proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to weather.
