Job Summary:
This position reports to the Machine Engineering Department and is responsible for researching, designing, building, and testing mechanical devices including tools, system controls, and machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identifies process deficiencies and develops solutions to improve those deficiencies.
- Projects future project needs and completes full lifecycle product development tasks.
- Expands and maintains technical knowledge relating to the design and controls of Burn-In Chambers.
- Develops and implements early phase mechanical concept design, performs tolerance analysis, finite element analysis or other design analysis.
- Performs initial and ongoing design reviews.
- Ensures designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
- Produces accurate and complete documentation, BOM’s, and procedures to support operations.
- Provides experienced insight and application of design for manufacturability and assembly for systems and other mechanical assemblies.
- Supports and works with in-house machine and sheet metal shop to continuously improve design for manufacturing.
- Able to communicate with and support in-house manufacturing during system build.
- Works independently to solve complex design issues.
- Partners with Sales and Customer Service to support customer issues, translate feedback into engineering design requirements, and process necessary engineering and field change orders.
- Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of mechanical design experience.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems and Manufacturing systems.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing skills.
- Strong knowledge of 3D CAD software and drafting procedures.
- Strong design for manufacturing and design for assembly skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Experience designing and developing electromechanical assemblies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Manufacturing support experience.
- Machine and sheet metal shop support experience.
- Experience using SolidWorks.
- Experience with machine control designs, including motors, pressure and temperature sensing, and basic thermal skills.
