Greenhouse Lead

Micro Paradox is seeking a Greenhouse Lead. The Greenhouse Lead is responsible for assisting the Greenhouse Manager by assisting with day-to-day greenhouse and plant maintenance responsibilities, helping the greenhouse team complete tasks and troubleshoot issues, and assisting with greenhouse-related administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate for this role is familiar with plant growth and development, has experience working with industrial equipment, is comfortable leading a small team and coordinating with multiple stakeholders, has a positive attitude, and is able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

About Us

Micro Paradox is a tissue culture and micropropagation laboratory that provides clean nursery stock and young plants to commercial nurseries in the United States and abroad. Plants produced by Micro Paradox are disease-free, uniform, and true-to-type. We also provide related tissue culture services such as germplasm maintenance, virus eradication, embryo rescue, and other custom projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with labeling plants by gathering lot numbers, generating labels, and instructing team members on what needs to be labeled
• Monitor work areas to ensure benches and plants are sorted and labeled correctly
• Up-pot plants, transplant seedlings, prepare soil mixtures, and perform other planting tasks
• Assist in overseeing the movement of plants between different growing areas, coordinating with lab production stakeholders as needed
• Operate farm machinery such as ellepot and sorting machines
• Perform general maintenance and repair tasks, recording updates on repairs in company ticketing system. Assist with spot maintenance and mechanical issues in non-greenhouse areas
• Proactively identify and report plant and greenhouse infrastructure-related issues
• Assist with shipping customer deliveries by boxing plants, loading plants onto racks and trucks, and helping the greenhouse team complete these duties. Work closely with the Logistics Manager and upper management to ensure timely, accurate delivery, assisting with completing delivery slips and related paperwork as needed
• Greet new plant material and supply deliveries, unloading supplies and notifying appropriate personnel. Request support from other forklift drivers when needed
• Assist with completing purchase requisitions, and complete occasional supply runs to local hardware stores
• Communicate frequently with greenhouse managers and other leads to be aware of upcoming labor needs and to ensure efficient assignment of work
• Assist in training new hires and retraining existing employees on greenhouse procedures and safety, creating and updating training material as needed
• Assist with hiring new team members
• Meet assigned production targets where applicable
• Accurately follow production procedures, including but not limited to plant handling procedures, completing required forms, and accurately reporting production data
• Keep work area organized and clean
• Adhere to established safety protocols
• Communicate effectively with manager and management team
• Related duties as assigned

Key Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Possess a valid CA driver license
• Fluent in both written and spoken English; fluency in Punjabi a plus
• Nursery and past leadership experience strongly preferred
• Familiar with computers, and able to perform data entry and use GSuite programs
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical issues (forklift certified a plus)
• Strong problem solving skills
• Understand basic mathematical concepts including ratios and measurements
• Able to perform repetitive hands-on work for extended periods of time
• Able to follow training and instructions
• Able to carry out routine work with minimal supervision
• Able to work with hands, stand, walk, sit, stoop, and bend for extended hours
• Able to climb on ladders as needed
• Able to lift 30 lbs
