What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Technician position at Micro Paradox?
Production Technicians (Lab Technicians) move between media and planting responsibilities, depending on production needs. Their media responsibilities may include mixing and dispensing in vitro media, and their planting responsibilities may include transplanting plants from in vitro media to small soil pots, treating plant material to induce root growth prior to in vitro planting, or sorting potted plants outdoors in greenhouses – depending on production needs. Candidates for this position should have a good work ethic, a positive attitude, be comfortable working outside or in partially exposed structures, and be interested in learning new skills.
About Us
Micro Paradox is a tissue culture and micropropagation laboratory that provides clean nursery stock and young plants to commercial nurseries in the United States and abroad. Plants produced by Micro Paradox are disease-free, uniform, and true-to-type. We also provide related tissue culture services such as germplasm maintenance, virus eradication, embryo rescue, and other custom projects.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the position will include:
- Mix and dispense in vitro media according to standard procedures and recipes
- Follow standard procedures for sorting in vitro plants and transplanting healthy individuals to soil pots or in vitro media, as applicable
- Follow sterile techniques for cutting plants in an aseptic laboratory setting, other facility procedures for minimizing contamination
- Accurately label trays of plants
- Sort trays – and individuals within trays – based on characteristics ranging from plant type to age or other specified characteristics
- Routinely handle and manipulate small, delicate plants
- Meet production targets for assigned crops
- Accurately follow production procedures, including but not limited to plant handling procedures, completing required forms, and accurately reporting production data
- Correctly use, sterilize, and follow use protocols for production tools
- Keep work area organized and clean
- Adhere to established safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with team lead and supervisor
- Related duties as assigned
Key Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Able to follow training and instructions
- Able to carry out routine work with minimal supervision
- Able to work with hands, stand, walk, sit, stoop, and bend for extended hours
- Able to work in hot and humid conditions when required
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs
