TECHNICAL SALES SPECIALIST


DESCRIPTION DATE: February 2025 


POSITION PURPOSE:


Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Technical Sales Specialist will drive the growth of the company’s business by leveraging technical expertise to sell machine capacity to new customers as well as expand existing customer relationships. This position will play a pivotal role in engaging customers for selling opportunities, building trusting partnerships, and supporting customers through onboarding new parts.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify and develop new sales opportunities through networking & trade shows.
  • Engage with prospective and existing customers to understand their technical needs and provide tailored solutions from our capabilities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of machining capabilities, quality assurance, and operational processes. Be able to present the company to customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Qualify new customers and projects based on Company metrics to ensure a strong alignment between Company’s capabilities and customer requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering and customers to ensure that product solutions meet technical specifications and expectations.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions of sale while maintaining strong, long-lasting customer relationships.
  • Manage new business & the onboarding of new parts. 
  • Track sales progress and provide regular reporting on opportunities, pipeline, and forecasts.
  • Follow up with customers regularly to maintain a “first in mind” relationship. 
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop accurate quotations.
  • Report on monthly KPIs.
  • Forecast analysis.
  • Assist leadership in creating an annual sales budget.
  • Navigate ERP software and CRM platform to obtain needed information

REQUIREMENTS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (preferred)
  • 5 years of B2B Industrial sales experience in CNC machining (preferred)
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Epicor ERP & Salesforce experience a plus
  • Willingness to travel at least 25% for prospecting, trade shows, and customer qualification
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrates ability to read, write, speak, hear and interpret documents and instructions from both verbal and written English
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Must perform well in stressful situations, and be able to maintain positive customer relationships
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds safely
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, stoop, crouch and kneel
  • Required to use hands to handle, touch and feel office equipment and computers
  • Vision requirements include (corrective or non) close range, distance, color, depth and focus
  • Comply with all company, safety and quality policies and procedures
