Overview

We are hiring a Senior Revenue Recognition Finance Manager to join our Finance Organization. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to work in a high performing team at a world class company. The Microsoft Operations Finance Revenue Recognition team is responsible for the reporting accuracy of billions of dollars of revenue across the world for both US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and local statutory reporting. This role is heavy on communication skills that create clarity and drive seamless stakeholder engagement to support Microsoft’s product and services strategy, and deliver revenue results aligned to Microsoft compliance and technical accounting policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review peer completed complex contract reviews in compliance with Microsoft’s ASC606 accounting policies and guidelines to document accounting conclusions and calculate revenue adjustments
  • Engage with deal desk for upfront consultation on deals to influence deal construct and drive compliance within MS empowerment guidance
  • May review peer work product for completeness and accuracy
  • Prepare exposure analysis and provide recommendations to mgmt
  • Perform month end close revenue tasks
  • Act as global lead for aspects of Quarter-end Revenue Close Process
  • Represents functional point of view in critical cross-functional and cross-company forums
  • Develop deep understanding of MS revenue policies to effectively field complex questions from business partners and leadership.
  • Prepare and review contract and consultation data to drive consistent policy application, identify business trends, and prepare summaries for management
  • Investigate and resolves business partner inquiries, accounting deviations, and other data anomalies
  • Contributes to process-improvement efforts by collecting and reviewing business partner and team feedback and incorporating industry best practices.
  • Assist with internal and external audit queries on revenue recognition.
  • Identify and assess financial statement risk to provide input on initiatives to enhance control compliance with US GAAP and SOX.
  • Subject matter expert to represent Ops Finance in support of global or regional projects.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 4 years accounting or finance experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 3 years accounting or finance experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of experience in critical thinking, problem-solving, and operational excellence
  • 3 years of experience creating complex spreadsheets, pivot tables, and performing data analysis and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • 2 years of experience in navigating complex systems, processes and programs
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 8 years accounting or finance experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 6 years accounting or finance experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Professional accounting certification such as CPA or equivalent.
  • Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
  • Expert communication skills to influence business partners and deliver complex messages with clarity
  • Critical thinking, comfortable dealing with complexity and ambiguity with tenacity to find answers and reach conclusions and operational excellence.
  • Advanced planning and organizational skills with ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate across a broad spectrum of audiences.
  • Experience with complex systems, processes, and programs.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office application skills, especially Excel.
  • Experience in the technology or software industry and/or with multinationals with multi-product and segment finance roles.
  • Project Management experience
  • Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
Accounting IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
