POSITION SUMMARY:
Mid-America University seeks an adjunct faculty member with in-person and online teaching experience for undergraduate courses in the areas of communication. The applicant must possess a strong Christian background.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences as assigned by the Chair
- Provide quality instruction by following the department’s course syllabus, grading assignments, tracking attendance
- Submit course grades and perform other administrative duties as required.
- Respond and effectively communicate with the Chair on a regular basis
- Be available to teach courses in the timeslots needed to support the goals of the University
- Perform other such duties as may be deemed appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess excellent communication, both oral and written, and organizational skills necessary for the position
- Must possess excellent communication skills to work effectively with individuals and groups
- Must be flexible in scheduling; MACU utilizes a course schedule that typically runs courses MWF or T/TR between 8:00 a.m. and 1:05 p.m.
- Must demonstrate effective teaching skills
- Must value teaching students and wish to contribute fully to the life and mission of the University
- Commit to the mission of the University
- Prefer teaching experience in the course fundamentals of public speaking
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
M.A. or PhD in the area of Communication or (18 hours of upper-division coursework in Communication)
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Experience with interactive computer programs (e.g. Zoom)
- Experience with either D2L, Canvas, or Blackboard- MACU utilizes Canvas
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Operate a computer with a keyboard, pointing device, webcam, and speakers
- Stand and sit for extended periods of time
- Verbally express information or instructions
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds (~11 kilograms)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
On-ground working conditions take place, so the successful candidate must have reliable transportation.
