What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct - School of Science, Microbiology position at MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY INC?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Mid-America University seeks a part-time faculty member with in-person and online teaching experience for undergraduate courses in the area of microbiology. A successful applicant will indicate a strong commitment to MACU’s mission and Christian faith.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses in microbiology as assigned by the Director of Nursing Program
- Provide quality instruction in the classroom and lab in accordance with the department’s course syllabus, to include grading assignments, and tracking attendance records etc.
- Participate in University Outcomes Assessment process
- Available to teach courses on days assigned as needed to support the goals of the University
- Be adequately prepared for class and lab, and instruct class/lab for the assigned time frame
- Support lab personnel with preparations and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies
- Respond and effectively communicate with the Director of Nursing and Lab Manager on a regular basis
- Work with Lab Manager to schedule any missed lab assignments for students with school sponsored events
- Effectively communicate with lab personnel for lab needs and ensures equipment is properly maintained
- Maintain proficiency in lab procedures, live cultures, and lab clean-up for all assigned microbiology labs
- Other pertinent duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Lab Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess excellent communication, both oral and written, and organizational skills necessary to the position and work effectively with individuals and groups
- Must be flexible in scheduling, which may include days, nights, and weekends
- Experience using various teaching delivery formats
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Prefer knowledge pertaining to OSHA regulations
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- M.S. or PhD in the area of microbiology (18 hours of upper division coursework)
- Demonstrate effective teaching skills and course/lab organization

COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Experience with interactive computer programs
- Online LMS (Canvas) teaching experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds (~11 kilograms)
- Ability to stand for long periods of time at one station
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Working conditions may be indoors or outdoors with exposure to cold, heat and hazardous materials.
