Job Summary: This position is responsible for daily mail room operations, working directly with customers, maintaining the appearance of the sales floor, and managing retail inventories. This position requires someone that works well with the public in a retail environment. The individual must be able to be productive in an environment that has many interruptions. The position requires the unloading and loading of various kinds of merchandise (some of it heavy) such as clothing, office supplies, and campus mail.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mail Room Operations
- Manage mail room operations (Student mail records, mailbox assignments, etc.)
- Receive all incoming mail from USPS, UPS, FEDEX, and others.
- Sort all incoming mail and prepare for distribution to students or offices.
- Distribute all sorted mail to the appropriate offices or students.
- Process outgoing letter mail and packages on behalf of offices and students.
Retail Operations
- Greet and assist customers.
- Operate cash register and reconcile at the end of each day.
- Merchandising and setting up displays.
- Receive new merchandise ensuring the order’s quantities, quality and prices are accurate.
- Organizing and operating sales and promotions and assist with special events.
- Participate in periodic inventory cycles and year-end inventory.
- Assist with various on-campus departments for special merchandise purchases.
- Obtain adequate knowledge of textbook operations with the ability to assist customers.
- Establish and maintain good business relationships with suppliers and sales representatives.
- Perform other related retail duties as requested by store manager.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Valid driver’s license
- Self-motivated
- Ability to manage concurrent activities
- Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service
- Capable of decision making and problem solving
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use computer software to exchange email, fill out web based forms, operate a postage meter, and to receive merchandise
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma required
- Post Office or retail experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. One must possess the ability to lift large and/or heavy packages up to 100 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Environment:
- Mail room and retail store
- 40 hours per week
- Monday through Friday 8:00-5:00, occasional Saturdays possible
