Housekeeper
Job Summary:
Mid-America Science Museum Housekeeper performs cleaning of the museum interior spaces, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, window washing, bathroom cleaning, and other routine cleaning. A successful candidate is detail oriented, meticulous in cleaning practices and possesses strong customer service skills.
Department: Exhibits and Facilities Department
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Experience Required: Previous cleaning and/or maintenance experience.
Reports to: Chief Facilities Officer
Description of Duties:
- Responsible for attention to detail, and consistent and thorough cleaning of the entire museum.
- Daily vacuuming of public and non-public floors, mopping of tiled flooring and cleaning of the bathrooms. Responsible for operating floor equipment to clean floors in snack bar area, lounge areas and restrooms.
- Daily dusting of furniture, exhibits, and any other surfaces as required.
- Daily trash removal.
- Regularly scheduled cleaning of surfaces, such as tables, chairs, handrails, windows and exhibits. Removes stains, spills and/or gum from floors throughout the day.
- Assist with Snack Bar maintenance and cleaning.
- Regularly scheduled carpet and meeting room cleaning.
- Launder towels, tablecloths and other linens as needed.
- Assist Exhibit Technicians in daily and project tasks as required, such as exhibit moving and light maintenance.
- Responsible for inspecting, stocking, supplying and cleaning of restrooms throughout each day.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Orders supplies as needed. Remove cleaning supplies and materials from shipping/receiving dock.
- Assist in set-ups for rooms and events, as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of janitor closets, keeping them neat in appearance and fully stocked.
- Maintain housekeeping equipment in good, operational condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends when scheduled.
- Must be able to vary normal work schedule, as needed, in order to provide adequate coverage for the museum.
- Preferred operational knowledge of and experience using commercial cleaning equipment.
- Must be able to communicate with one-on-one conversations, and two-way radios with visitors, staff and museum guests.
- Must be able to able to respond to on-call alerts, as needed.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects (at minimum 50 lbs.), stock inventory and other museum supplies.
- Must also be able to accomplish both low and high cleaning of the building (ground level to seven feet high).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.42 - $14.43 per hour
