Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Court Interpreter to facilitate communication in legal settings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures, ensuring accurate interpretation between parties involved in court proceedings. This role requires fluency in both the source and target languages, as well as the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and impartial interpretation during court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
- Translate legal documents and materials as needed, ensuring fidelity to the original text.
- Assist legal counsel by facilitating communication with clients who require interpretation services.
- Conduct document reviews to ensure compliance with legal standards and requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all interpreted information in accordance with legal ethics.
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices within various areas of law including DUI law, workers compensation law, wills trusts estate law, immigration law, and contract law.
- Fluent in English and one or more of the following languages: Asian languages (e.g. Chinese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Farsi,Vietnamese, Japanese, Tagalog, etc.)b. Latin languages (e.g. Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, etc.)c. Slavic and European languages (e.g. Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Bulgarian Danish, Dutch, Slavic, German, Lithuanian, Hebrew etc.)d. African languages (e.g. Nigerian, Sudanese, etc.)e. Indigenous languages (e.g. Mixteco, Purépecha, Triqui, Zapotec, Náhuatl, Mam, Navajo, Cherokee, etc.)
Experience
- Proven experience as a court interpreter or in a similar role within the legal field is preferred.
- Familiarity with legal case management systems is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills in both spoken and written forms in required languages.
- Ability to interpret complex legal terminology accurately across various domains of law.
- Experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of cultural nuances is beneficial.
- Certification or accreditation from a recognized interpreting organization is a plus but not mandatory.
- 3 years minimum experience as a professional interpreter
