Job Description:

Mid-Atlantic Controls Corporation is a building automation systems contractor located in Richmond, VA with 30 years in the industry. As an independent contractor, we take pride in our ability to offer a variety of products and solutions that are tailored to fit our customers' needs. With Tridium, Siemens, Distech Controls, JCI and Honeywell products among our line-up, our team is well-rounded, flexible and knowledgeable. As a small company, we also offer a unique opportunity to be involved in a hands-on capacity from the beginning of a project to its completion and work alongside colleagues responsible for all phases.

We are currently seeking an application engineer. This is a leadership position on our team with some overlap by nature with project management. In this position, our goals are to keep our customer base satisfied by working with them to produce a well-designed end product that meets their needs and expectations, and to set our installation and technical service teams out in the field up for success.

Typical Engineering Job Duties include:

  • Reviewing assigned projects and communicating with our sales team to determine pertinent information (point of contact, background information, scope and budget)
  • Communicating with the customer to develop or obtain a timeframe for the project as well as any mechanical submittals, schedule site visits, etc. as needed to create a cohesive set of drawings.
  • Create controls drawings, including network/device layout information, flow diagrams, sequences, electrical ladder diagrams, etc. that communicate the information our field team needs to complete the project in an efficient manner, and are easily understood and legible to the customer and those reviewing our work.
  • Create a submittal package that meets the requirements of the DDC specification for plan and spec projects, or submitting drawings and product data to the owner for negotiated projects and obtaining approval of your plan of action.
  • Communicating the timeline and needs of the project to the project manager if one is assigned to assist, alternatively you may assume this role for your projects.
  • Provide project turnover material (installation manuals, warranty information and as-built drawings) to the customer following project completion.

Typical Project Management Job Duties include:

  • Obtaining a timeframe/schedule for the project you are assigned, and/or when given the opportunity create a schedule that meets the needs of the customer while taking into account our team's availability and skill level.
  • Order necessary parts for the project and ensure they are sent to the appropriate location.
  • Communicate with the customer involving start dates, site expectations, and other pertinent information to prepare the installation and tech services field teams.
  • Communicate expectations with the installation and tech services teams responsible for completing the job, including providing drawings, points of contact, location information, PPE requirements, etc. This may involve on-site meetings with the team as they get started and periodically throughout the project.
  • Exercise clear judgement in determining appropriate course of action should questions and discrepancies arise on site. Respond promptly to requests for support from the field team.
  • Ensure the project stays on schedule, maintain quality control, track action items to resolution and follow the project through to completion. Provide the project engineer with as-built drawings/field changes so corrected drawings may be turned over to the customer.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in BAS or HVAC, including experience in checkout, testing and commissioning.
