What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bakersfield-Water Service Maintenance Worker position at Mid-Cal Labor Solutions?
PRIMARY FUNCTION :
Assists in performing essential maintenance and repairs of water facility infrastructure in Bakersfield. This includes repairs and maintenance to water mains, service lines, streets / sidewalks and fire hydrants; repair and replacement of meter boxes; and assists in the general cleanup of facilities including painting, repairing, and maintaining Company owned or operated facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Have the ability to perform basic mathematic functions to calculate figures.
- Have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid California Class C Driver's license.
- Must be insurable under the Company's policy.
- Must have a working knowledge of basic features of word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word) and electronic mail processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook).
- Employees must be able to work with supervision and respond appropriately to direction, feedback, evaluation, coaching, counseling, and / or discipline.
- ONLY up to date resume, steady and current work history in this line of work will be reviewed.
Essential Job Functions :
1. Under direction, excavate and expose service / main leaks; isolate damage and assist in repairing or replacing assets; notify customers.
2. Assist in repairs and maintenance activities of meters, meter boxes, service lines, mains, wells, pump stations, and fences. 3. Assist in flushing and performing maintenance on all necessary functions of mains; operate various hand and power tools in the completion of these activities.
4. Assist in setting, replacing, and / or removing 1 ½" to 2" size meters.
5. Under direction conduct all water discharges with Company's policy including, but not limited to, implementation of Best Management Practices, monitoring and recording all required data, and completing necessary paperwork related to all discharge events.
6. Prepare and operate service truck(s) daily, the loading of needed materials and equipment, remove and dispose of debris, clean equipment and truck as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Change, repair, and clean meter boxes / lids, valve covers.
2. Clean, paint, repair, and maintain Company owned or operated facilities.
3. May perform other functions as outlined in the CBA section 8 W2
4. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in the field with exposure to local climate and weather conditions. This may include dust, wind, rain, snow, heat, or cold. The terrain is varied and the employee may need to ambulate on uneven dirt, gravel, asphalt, or in muddy conditions. The employee works around chlorine tanks and may be exposed to hazardous materials such as but not limited to sodium hypochlorite, gas, and diesel fumes. The noise level in the work environment varies and hearing protection may be required during certain activities. Employees in this position may be required to wear personal protective equipment depending on work task. Employees working in environments where noise exceeds the Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) of 85 db in an eight-hour workday shall be required to wear hearing protection. Appropriate footwear based on the nature of the job and the work environment must be worn at all times. Field jobs require approved safety shoes, as outlined in the Company's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Procedure.
