Mid-Central Door Company, a division of American Door Works, is a leader in supplying hollow metal doors and frames, commercial wood doors, and architectural hardware in greater Minnesota. Mid-Central Door and its parent company have paid its employees over $5 million from the company incentive program over the past 5 years! Due to continued growth, we are currently looking for a qualified candidate to join our company as a Shop/Field Technician at our new Detroit Lakes location.

The Shop/Field Technician role is a key position that helps by covering several positions at the Detroit Lakes location and will provide them with exposure to multiple jobs and a broader customer/vendor base. Job duties are listed below and will expand based on the growth of the Detroit Lakes location and with the addition of other employees. Support to this area, when needed, will come from the Area Development Manager or MCD Waite Park location.

Frame and Door Fabrication:

• Set up, operate, or tend welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
• When needed, use a hydraulic press with the appropriate tool & die to form and punch the metal frame for customized jobs.
• Measure, cut, and add window(s) into an existing door.
• Fabricator will need to be able to assembly and weld frame(s) frames per customer order.
• Use grinder to smooth the weld so that it appears to be one piece.
• Prime finished door frame to meet company and customer standards.
• Read blueprints, work orders, or production schedules to determine product or job instructions or specifications.
• Clean, lubricate, maintain, and adjust equipment to maintain efficient operation, using air hoses, cleaning fluids, and hand tools.

Warehouse and Hardware Support:

• Receiving and shipping hardware through UPS, FedEx, USPS, or other shipping vendors.
• Pull, organize, and stage hardware for projects and document, via electronic notification or hard copy. Label as required for use on the job site by Contractors.
• Assist in loading delivery trucks and some local deliveries (Locksmith, schools, hospitals, etc.).
• Organize and stock inventory accurately, label shelves properly, etc., and track inventory through company software and spreadsheets.

Route Driver/Delivery:

• Drive a delivery truck or van with a capacity of less than 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), primarily to deliver finished products or other merchandise to customers.
• Will need to load, secure, and unload the vehicle with the customer and ensure that there is no damaged material.
• Will need to keep in periodic communication throughout the day with customers and the manager in case of unforeseen traffic or other delays in delivery.
• Inspect and maintain vehicle equipment and supplies.

Field Service Technician

• Assist with installing commercial steel doors and frames, wood doors, and hardware.
• Remove or disassemble defective doors and door hardware using hand tools.
• Adjust doors to open or close with the correct amount of effort or make simple adjustments.
• Assist with troubleshooting onsite problems and contact manager with questions or support.
• If needed, explain how door and hardware works if customer is present when trained.
• Respond to customer questions in a truthful and pleasant manner.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or required by manager or general manager.

If your past attendance record is spotty, you’ve changed jobs quite frequently, you wait to be told what to do, and your mechanical aptitude & capabilities are lacking…this job is not a good fit for you.

Candidates for this position must be motivated, hard-working, and willing to learn. Working background is in the building trades are preferred but manufacturing experience is also acceptable. Must have a current & valid MN driver’s license and be able to obtain a DOT health card to drive company vehicles. Must be able to pass company drug test (including cannabis) and criminal background checks. Must have good mechanical aptitude & trouble-shooting skills and demonstrated ability to understand and work with common power tools. Must have manual dexterity in both hands, which allows the use of hand & power tools and to grasp nuts, bolts, and other necessary items to complete assigned jobs. Must be able to lift up to 125 pounds and carry for up to 50 feet.
