Location : Onsite, The Dalles and Hood River, Oregon (Work may be required in Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman Counties)

Description :

The Medical Director collaborates with all program areas within the Agency to reach the goal of empowering community members and staff. This role supports clients in a rural, community-based program. The Medical Director will serve multiple locations throughout the community and provide oversight for a variety of programs. This role exudes passion for working with individuals who may be experiencing serious to severe mental illness and / or substance use disorders and will support clients in creating the narrative that they are experts in their own treatment and recovery.

Mid-Columbia Center for Living (MCCFL) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) that specializes in providing services that are both trauma-informed and recovery-oriented to persons / consumers with mental illness and addictions. Trauma-informed care includes safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, cultural responsivity, and empowerment for both clients and staff. MCCFL serves Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman Counties and utilizes a consumer-involved, consumer-engaged, and consumer-driven model. MCCFL provides a whole-person care approach to adults and children to address both physical and mental health needs. MCCFL offers a variety of programs including a mobile crisis unit, intensive case management, ongoing counseling, community support, supported employment, jail diversion, hospital discharges, hearings, and more.

Qualifications :

What skills and education do you need :

  • Current unencumbered medical license in the State of Oregon with specialty in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine.
  • Five (05) years of experience in clinical practice, community behavioral health services, or related field.
  • Three (03) years of experience performing work in a highly accountable administrative, teaching, or supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon or Washington Driver's License, maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable for client service purposes and for travel between business office for meetings and / or trainings.
  • All licenses and certifications required for this position must remain valid.
  • Must pass all criminal history check requirements as required by ORS 181.536-181.537 and in accordance with OAR 407-007-0200 to 407-007-0370.

What you'll do :

The following list represents the essential responsibilities (functions) of the position. It does not, however, represent all of the duties the position may be asked to perform) :

  • Lead the agency’s behavioral health and primary care integration initiatives.
  • Supervise employed and contracted medical providers, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
  • Oversee behavioral health medical providers’ compliance with applicable community standards of care, State and Federal laws, and other regulatory requirements for providing services.
  • Direct and evaluate the medical component of services across the behavioral health system to ensure clients receive quality medical and psychiatric treatment.
  • Act as a key participant in ongoing clinical review of behavioral health systems, programs, and services based on evidence-based practice standards.
  • Partner with Medical Team leadership and other Agency department managers to oversee operation of all medication support services.
  • Participate as a member of the Agency’s administrative and management teams.
  • Establish and foster relationships between the Agency and community based medical providers and healthcare organizations.
  • Oversee risk management and adverse event reviews.
  • Support clients and staff within the framework of trauma-informed care and mental health recovery.
  • Knowledge of working in a community-based program serving youth and families, transitioning age youth, adults, and older adults.
  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use disorders and the intersection of dual diagnosis clients.
  • Use of electronic health records (EHR) systems and the ability to support medical staff with the proper use of the EHR.
  • Utilize a collaborative work style, including excellent listening skills, and the ability to communicate with staff, clients, and caregivers.
  • Provide consultation with staff or medication management as needed.
  • Provide leadership with staff including management of staff performance, hiring staff, and creating organizational procedures and workflows.
  • Provide client transportation using agency vehicles as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance; professional communication; maintain confidentiality.
