Work Schedule: Currently M-F 7am-3:30 and Some overtime emergency call-ins on weekends as needed or assigned times when needed.

Position Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician II is responsible for completing fundamental facilities maintenance tasks as assigned in facilities throughout the library system as directed by the Facilities management team. Facilities Maintenance Tech II’s assist in supervising tasks assigned to less experienced Facilities Maintenance Technician I’s.
Essential Functions
  • Completes work orders and routine maintenance assignments as directed
  • Completes advanced skilled tasks under supervision of the Facilities Manager and Assistant Manager, Technician III, including but not limited to, following trades plumbing repairs, mechanical maintenance repairs and replacement, electrical wiring and lighting installation, inspections, minor repairs of concrete and flatwork, drywall repairs, painting, and patching, windows repairs, door locks and parking lots, building systems maintenance
  • Works with Facilities Management team & Technician III to accomplish installation of Library shelving and moving branches, oversees contractor moving shelving, and furniture and library materials
  • Performs intermediate skilled maintenance, repairs, and support for HVAC systems, fan motors, belts, filter changes, and washes out outside units
  • Makes visual inspection of equipment, keeps records of issues with units, facility maintenance and repairs, and reports to Facilities Manager or Assistant Facilities Manager
  • Delivers furniture or programing materials to the library for programming of library services, pick-up and delivery of parts, supplies, signage
  • Assists with tasks under close supervision of the Facilities Maintenance, Assistant Manager, Technician III as directed, including but not limited to plumbing repair and maintenance, electrical wiring and systems inspection, installation, and repair
  • Keeps records of repairs made according to Facilities Department practices, reporting all observed facility maintenance and repair needs to Facilities management.
Non-essential Functions
  • Hardware installation to include wall hangings for bulletin boards, pictures, clocks, program signage
  • Inventory of supplies, parts, filter materials, count shelving, or orders parts related to skilled trades as directed by Facilities Manager or Assistant Manager
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/HiSet/GED Completion Required
  • Associate degree Preferred
  • Trade course certification Preferred
  • 3 years trade work experience or intermediate knowledge Preferred
  • HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Carpentry knowledge Preferred
  • Construction knowledge or technical school Preferred

    • Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft office and 365 applications, including Word and Outlook, must be able to use MS phone application

    • Fundamental ability to access email account, clock in, make notes on Word, and use applications on cell phone

    • Demonstrates intermediate skills working with the facilities department, contractors, and vendors
    • Ability to oversee vendors and Technician I to assist with department tasks, work orders and individual areas of responsibility

    • Intermediate knowledge of department processes and procedures regarding points of contact for service-related issues
    • Demonstrates fundamental judgement and responsive action
    • Exhibits the ability to be accountable for reporting service issues to appropriate Leadership staff and vendors

    • Ability to be adaptable to service workload and prioritize based upon the library’s programming needs
Age Requirement:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Motor Vehicle Requirement
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive MCPL vehicle according to company policy
Work Environment
  • (Indoor/Outdoor) Works both indoors and outdoors and must have considerable tolerance for weather conditions, dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enable the employee to work outside at a facility, handle construction and library materials, work in older buildings and on jobsites, and interact with coworkers and the public
  • Use of special equipment, safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), high noise level, shared office space
