What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Specialist position at Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency?
Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency has redesigned its service delivery to meet the needs of our communities. We are excited to introduce a new case management program that is strengths-based with a whole family approach designed to achieve short term goals and long-term results for its customers. The successful Community Specialist will work within a team to determine eligibility for crisis services as a well as build relationships within the community to meet the needs of our customers. This position requires that the incumbent be extremely detail oriented and be able to quickly assess circumstances and determine eligibility for services. This position requires a creative, self-starter, self-disciplined and comfortable with public speaking in small and large groups.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Eligibility Determination
2. Customer Service
3. Data Entry
4. Motivational Interviewing of customers in need of crisis services
5. Mentoring & Coaching
6. Facilitating classes, trainings, meetings, and support groups
7. Coordinating community resources
8. Community Development
9. Building community networks
10. Creating partnerships
11. Attending related meetings and participates in networking groups as necessary
12. Assisting with planning, packing, and distributing food through TEFAP/Commodities Programs
13. Scheduling and participating in Outreach events to educate community and/or to provide eligibility determination for services
14. Participating in other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
High School diploma or equivalent required. The position requires 2 years’ experience infield of Human Services. Applicant must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. A combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered for the position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Requirements that must be satisfied prior to attaining Regular Employment Status and updated, as requested:

18. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
19. Proof of liability insurance on a personal vehicle in the amount of $25,000/$50,000/$25,000 prior to being hired.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS RELATED TO WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Ability to manage multiple tasks, frequent interruptions, and changes of pace with professionalism and composure.
2. Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to, but not limited to, local, state, and national destinations. Travel methods may include personal or agency vehicle, box truck, airplane, or train.
3. Ability to use own vehicle for work related activities when Agency vehicles are not available
4. Ability to work and drive during periods of inclement weather
5. Ability to effectively interact and work cooperatively as a team member with people from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
6. Ability to work in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, offices, warehouses, storage units, box trucks and public places
7. Ability to work in a vehicle or environment that may not be air-conditioned
