Fleet Manager for Trucking Company

Mid Lane Carriers Inc., is looking to hire a Fleet Equipment Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations at its location in the city of Wilmington, CA. This individual will be responsible for managing yard employees such as chassis mechanics, diesel mechanics, and yard goat drivers. The candidate will report and communicate directly with the Operations Manager and office personnel to ensure a safe and productive work environment. They must be able to manage and resolve issues that arise with yard staff with the help of HR, maintain invoices from all yard departments, be up to date with CAL/OSHA rules/regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and Manage a Team of Mechanics
• Schedule equipment maintenance, inspections, and repairs
• Manage the fleet and equipment
• Assign, collect, sign off on work orders, and file
• Inspect mechanic work
• Order parts
• Communicate with the office and drivers
• Manage the yard and keep areas clean and safe
• Collect daily vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) from drivers
• Update spreadsheet with future, present, and past repairs
• Maintain workshop inventory
• Manage out-of-service equipment and schedule tows when needed
• Address complaints and resolve problems
• Answer questions on Discord
• Keep a log for Repairs and upcoming repairs

Qualifications:

• Mechanic Knowledge (Diesel Chassis)
• BIT 90-day inspection, Annual inspection, Federal inspection Knowledge
• Communication Skills
• Up to date with CAL/OSHA Standards and regulations
• Documentation
• Managing Crews
• Proficient in Spanish (not required, but preferred)
• Physical Requirements: Individuals must be able to climb ladders, kneel, crouch, carry, push, and pull objects and materials up to 60 pounds.
• An effective team member who can partner with associates and accomplish initiatives.
• Leadership ability to work with and develop teams.
• Able to perform assembly tasks as required
• Basic math skills needed
• Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of associates and managers.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES

• Driver’s license
• Certified as a forklift operator and/or welder in accordance with company and OSHA standards. (Preferred but not required)
• Successful completion of the company-sponsored First Aid and CPR course (preferred not required)

Requirements:

• Must have experience in mechanical work with diesel trucks and chassis’ (at least 2 years)
• High school diploma, EDG, or equivalent
• 3 years working in a trucking yard

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They will be frequently required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The candidate is occasionally required to sit and talk and/or hear. The candidate is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires travel from yard locations (all locations are in Wilmington CA)
