    Accountant / Financial Assistant
    Location: Central Office, Business Office
    Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
    Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 - Commensurate with education and experience, comprehensive benefits package and paid time off
    Terms: Full time; 12 months

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
    • Minimum three years’ accounting experience, governmental (fund) accounting preferred.
    • Accounts receivable and general ledger experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps G Suite
    • Experience with PowerSchool’s B-Plus software preferred.
    • Ability to work independently and make good decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • MSBO Certification in a business office specialty preferred. (Required within five years of employment if not currently attained.)

    Responsibilities:

    • Process financial transactions and post to general ledger.
    • Perform month-end closing activities and prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Assist in preparation and monitoring of annual budgets.
    • Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis.
    • Record and reconcile cash transactions related to student activity accounts.
    • Prepare monthly reoccurring manual journal entries
    • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring internal controls.
    • Assist and/or serve as backup for accounts payable function.
    • Assist in the management of Federal and State Grant accounting and reporting.
    • Prepare and manage monthly cash flow report.
    • Prepare quarterly Medicaid cost reports.
    • Prepare various financial reports and analysis as needed.
    • Prepare schedules, gather information and assist auditors as needed.
    • Monitor cash flow and make investments as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
    • Assist in the preparation of various State of Michigan financial reports – FID, SE-4094 and SE4096.
    • Review and ensure proper recording local tax revenue
    • Prepare/provide support for year-end activities including, but not limited to 1099 etc.
    • Preparation and filing of annual unclaimed property report to the State of Michigan, including monthly review of outstanding checks
    • Assist with annual transparency and accountability report
    • Maintain the chart of accounts in accordance with the Michigan Public School Accounting Manual.
    • Make and/or coordinate all financial accounting entries; prepare financial reports as requested; monitor the accuracy of financial accounting reports; and make recommendations for improvement of the financial accounting system.
    • Furnish financial accounting information and data to administrators as requested.
    • Maintain an organized filing system of all Districts’ financial records with an understanding of the Michigan retention schedule
    • Oversee credit card processing and monthly reconciliation.
    • Assists district personnel with identifying, analyzing and solving accounting problems/questions.
    • Other duties as assigned
