JOB PURPOSE and Focus
To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive athletic program in the assigned sport that is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations and be a positive role model for all students.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a high school head varsity football coach preferred
- Knowledge of football offensive, defensive and special teams strategies, as well as the ability to teach and apply same
- Demonstrated ability to provide vision and leadership for the development of varsity and feeder programs
- Willingness to communicate with colleges at all levels promoting the skills and abilities of our student / athletes. This includes returning all e-mail and phone calls to colleges in a timely manner, organizing in school discussions with college coaches, and making and disseminating of game tapes.
- Patience, reliability, problem solving ability, as well as diplomacy and negotiation skills
- Willingness to accommodate a flexible work schedule
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals
- Ability to work with and support athletes of all ability levels
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate
- Demonstrated ability to work positively and effectively within a group toward a common goal
- Willingness to direct and balance the development of a quality comprehensive K-12 football program at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to organize, meet deadlines, and follow financial and record-keeping requirements
- Demonstrated ability to motivate coaches, players and make a positive contribution to the development of high school athletes
- Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively with students, coaches, district staff, parents, athletic boosters and the community
- Desire to promote high school athletics within the district and community
- Willingness to proactively participate in and contribute to Saginaw Valley League sportsmanship initiatives

Work Environment
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
