The Legal Counsel and Title IX Director ensures that the college and employees operate ethically, legally, and according to regulations. They oversee internal policies, control and review all legal documents to identify legal and regulatory risks, and implement solutions. This position ensures compliance with all requirements under Title IX, Title VII, various Civil Rights Discrimination Laws, Americans with Disability Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Violence Against Woman Reauthorization Act of 2013, and laws otherwise designed to assure an equitable education and work environment. They offer guidance to the college on legal matters; conduct internal investigations involving areas of compliance with legal and/or Board policies, Title IX, Non-Discrimination, and Student Conduct issues.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills

- High proficiency in computer usage, including Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Calendar, and database interaction (student information system)
- Excellent time management skills

- Project management skills and experience
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Juris Doctorate required
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in employee relations, conduct or compliance required
- Proficiency in comprehension of Federal and State laws and regulations mandatory
- Understanding of Title IX, ADA/Section 504, and VAWA mandatory
- Knowledge of Michigan State laws mandatory
- Legal experience preferred
- Previous experience in a community college setting preferred
Working Environment:
- The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor; punctual attendance and reliability. The environment has little, if any discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is light noise within the environment
- There may be occasional travel to other College locations for meetings/duties
- Job duties may be performed in an independent or a team atmosphere
- The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds)
- Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or rigorous demands for accuracy; may be involved in some unpleasant situations
- Typical work schedule: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday.
