JOB SUMMARY:
Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking gardener to join our team. The gardener will be responsible for maintaining the appearance, health, and aesthetics of outdoor spaces at our Grove City location. The ideal candidate should have a passion for plants and horticulture, possess strong knowledge of gardening techniques, and take pride in creating beautiful outdoor environments.
This is a seasonal position beginning in January 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and manage the outdoor garden spaces through changing seasons, including planting seasonal flowers, bulbs, and vegetables.
- Implement proper care for plants during extreme weather conditions, such as winterizing or protecting delicate plants during frost.
- Select appropriate plants for different environments based on climate and soil conditions.
- Install new plantings, features like garden paths, decorative structures, or water features.
- Operate and maintain gardening equipment.
- Monitor plant health and identify problems such as pests, weeds, and soil imbalances and address them using eco-friendly practices where possible.
- Ensure garden areas are clean, tidy, and free of debris.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Proven experience as a gardener, horticulturist, or in a similar role.
Skills/Competencies: Strong knowledge of plant care, soil types, fertilizers, pest control, and garden tools. Ability to operate gardening machinery and equipment. Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that require bending, lifting, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Attention to detail and an eye for design and aesthetics in garden layouts. Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
JOB CONDITIONS:
This position requires work outdoors in various weather conditions. The work schedule may include weekends or early mornings depending on seasonality and project needs. Physical demands include prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
