The Field Service Technician is responsible for independently performing advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on vehicles and equipment in the field. This role requires strong technical expertise, effective communication skills, and a commitment to safety and professionalism.
General Responsibilities
- Always prioritize and promote a culture of safety.
- Collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Complete a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) daily, identifying potential hazards associated with scheduled tasks.
- Perform advanced mechanical repairs with efficiency and precision.
- Accurately diagnose issues in vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Conduct thorough testing following repairs to ensure proper operation.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance on all job sites.
- Maintain open and consistent communication with field supervision.
Role-Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain regular communication with the Shop Operations and Asset Manager regarding urgent repair needs.
- Travel to job sites with appropriate tools, equipment, and parts.
- Coordinate with on-site supervisors regarding additional minor repair requests.
- Effectively prioritize daily repair schedules and service routes.
- Evaluate equipment and vehicles to accurately identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Communicate diagnosis details clearly to the Shop Operations and Asset Manager .
- Work with the Parts Manager to source necessary components for repairs.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of vehicle and equipment functionality to support post-repair testing.
- Conduct road and field tests to ensure repair quality and completion.
- Thoroughly document all work performed using HCSS/E360 or other required systems.
- Verify that all used parts are accurately recorded on the repair order.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Return company tools and equipment to proper storage after use.
- Support team members with diagnostics and repair tasks as needed.
- Keep the service vehicle clean, stocked, and organized.
- Maintain necessary certifications and qualifications to access job sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment and automotive repair.
- Must have valid drivers license.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or trade school certification preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Up to 10% travel required.
- Work is performed primarily in field or shop environments with moderate noise levels.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, standing, carrying, stooping, kneeling, and reaching required.
