The Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District is a regional water and sewer provider established as an O.R.C 6119 entity. Mid-Ohio provides water and sewer services throughout Madison County and includes the operation of 6 wastewater treatment plants and 5 water treatment facilities. The Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District is a rapidly expanding water and sewer district which provides services to over 25,000 local residents.

Mid-Ohio Water and Sewer District is seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as a Laborer. As the District continues to grow and expand its services, this position plays a critical role in supporting the daily operations of our water and wastewater treatment facilities, sewer collection systems, and water distribution networks. The General Laborer will be responsible for performing a wide range of manual labor tasks to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of District infrastructure. This includes working with the District's distribution and collections team on various water and sewer system installations and repairs, as well as performing regular upkeep of District facilities.

This is a physically demanding role that requires the ability to work in various weather conditions, lift heavy materials, and perform tasks that involve working in confined spaces such as manholes, basins, tanks, and excavations. The ideal candidate must be comfortable performing heavy manual labor and working alongside experienced team members to complete projects in a timely and efficient manner, and all other duties assigned by the District.

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Field Supervisor, with additional supervision by the Crew Leader, the General Laborer performs a variety of routine duties, including maintenance and repair of water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as water and sewer systems. The General Laborer is responsible for assisting with the upkeep and general maintenance of District facilities and infrastructure, performing manual labor tasks, and providing support to the District’s operations and distribution teams.

The General Laborer will perform a wide range of physical tasks that support the efficient operation of the District, such as assisting with the installation of water and sewer systems, completing repairs, and maintaining equipment. This position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of District facilities for the benefit of its customers.

Examples of Work:

  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Perform routine servicing of plant equipment, pipes, and distribution systems.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of water distribution systems and sewer collection systems.
  • Assist with fabricating and maintaining pumping systems, piping, and electrical control panels.
  • Aid in the construction and repair of water and wastewater systems, pump stations, and collection/distribution lines.
  • Perform general labor tasks such as digging, lifting, and operating hand tools.
  • Clean work areas, equipment, and tools; perform general housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Assist with operating skid steers, dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, and other equipment as required.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment as needed for job sites.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance tasks and perform minor repairs on District systems.
  • Read and follow blueprints and technical manuals to support system maintenance and construction.
  • Provide general support to District operators, ensuring the completion of various tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic treatment systems and general maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment, such as skid steers, dump trucks, tractors, and forklifts.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions and reading blueprints or technical manuals.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual labor tasks, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs, climb stairs and ladders, and tolerate heights up to 50 feet.
  • Ability to complete safety training as required by federal, state, and local standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver License or valid driving privileges in the State of Ohio.
  • Must be able to lift weights up to a maximum of 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and tolerate heights up to 50 feet.
  • Ability to operate various hand tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently.

Pay and Benefits:
Mid-Ohio is a diverse and fast-growing District in Madison County, Ohio. Pay is competitive and based on experience and value to the District. Benefits include a company vehicle and tools, company-paid health insurance, OPERS (Ohio Public Employees Retirement System), paid holidays, and up to two weeks of paid vacation. Work Conditions

Work is performed primarily outdoors. Employees in this position are often working on public roadways, exposed to traffic hazards, sometimes at night or in inclement weather. Additional job site conditions include exposure to open trenches, sewage, various chemicals, and dust or pollen. The employee may also be exposed to hazards such as dampness, direct sunlight, machinery or its moving parts, chemicals, or similar solutions, insect stings, liquid chemicals, and noisy work area. Some sites may be in remote locations, requiring employee to walk over rough terrain. The employee is frequently exposed to noxious odors, chemical fumes and liquid solvents. He/she may also be required to work near live electrical lines.
