SALARY RANGE: $35.00 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

Provide on-site athletic training services at assigned games as needed, conduct and document evaluation following injury, and provide direct services to student-athletes. Work with the Athletic Department and coaches to monitor the health of student-athletes. Work collaboratively with the Mid-Pacific Athletic Training staff. Work a flexible schedule to attend games and practice sessions as scheduled.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide athletic training services to student-athletes at assigned games as needed. There may be occasional coverage of the athletic training room with a full-time ATC as needed.
  • Conduct and document evaluation following an injury and provide direct services to student-athletes in emergency first-aid care.
  • Report injury and treatment documentation to the Head Athletic Trainer while maintaining compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Identify areas for change/improvement can help to reduce student injury.
  • Work closely with the Athletic Department and coaches to monitor the health of the student-athletes.
  • Counsel and advise student-athletes and coaches on prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of specific injuries and on other matters that may be pertinent to student-athletes and coaches.
  • Disseminate pertinent information regarding injury prevention techniques and equipment selection/use for students, parents, physicians, coaches and other staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff at Mid-Pacific. Assist with event coverage with the staff so that sports that present the highest risk of injury are covered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or Health Related Field
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by Board of Certification
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration.
  • Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs.
  • Good interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, coaches, and other school staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, holidays, and weekends on a regular basis to attend scheduled practices and games.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications and state registration.
  • Maintain a valid Hawaii driver’s license.

Other Skills:

A qualified person will possess the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Athletic Training Staff, the Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director, the Equipment and Facilities Manager, Pool Manager, the Athletic Office Administrative Assistant, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty, student-athletes, parents, and other members of the Mid-Pacific athletic community. This communication will include a combination of phone calls, text messages, emails, communication via receiving fax/letters, and face-to-face conversations. The person must be well organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the person will be a positive role model in our community and must possess the highest level of sportsman-like behavior at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 30-50 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis must frequently problem solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
