JOB SUMMARY

Mid-Pacific is seeking a dedicated High School Language Arts and English Language Development (ELD) Teacher to teach a range of courses including multiple levels of Language Arts and ELD courses. This position requires expertise in both Language Arts instruction and ELD strategies, ensuring that all students—whether in mainstream English courses or English language development—receive high-quality, engaging instruction that fosters critical thinking, communication, and deeper learning.

The faculty member in this role will design an instructional environment that encourages learning and motivates students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to build a strong foundation for post-secondary education and career opportunities. The teacher will utilize differentiated strategies to support a wide range of learners, from students in rigorous Language Arts courses (including potential IB English Literature, Higher Level) to multilingual learners acquiring academic English proficiency.

Essential to this role is the ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, administrators, and community members to support each student's growth. The teacher will actively contribute to Mid-Pacific’s deeper learning framework, integrating inquiry-driven, real-world learning experiences that empower students to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage meaningfully in their education.

This position reports to the Middle & High School Assistant Principal for Academics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teach multiple levels of high school Language Arts, and ELD courses including English 9/10 and ELD Reading and Writing, incorporating research-based literacy practices and engaging instructional strategies.
  • Support a range of student abilities, including advanced learners and multilingual students acquiring academic English.
  • Design learning experiences that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity, in alignment with Mid-Pacific’s commitment to deeper learning.
  • Implement differentiated instruction and scaffolding techniques to support language development and literacy skills for students at all proficiency levels.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and measure student progress effectively.
  • Establish a student-centered classroom culture that promotes inclusivity, engagement, and a sense of belonging.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in school-wide professional learning and collaborative curriculum development to enhance instruction and student success.
  • Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with students and families, and contribute to the broader school community and its initiatives.

  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in English, Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching high school Language Arts and/or English Language Development (ELD/ESL).
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy instruction, multilingual learner support, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Strong ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Commitment to Mid-Pacific’s deeper learning framework and innovative educational practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with IB English Literature (Higher Level) is a plus but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that require frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The employee daily is required to frequently, unless otherwise noted walk to and from classrooms or buildings within five minutes, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds (student journals, papers, books, etc.); arrange student desks, furniture in the classroom as needed; stand and sit throughout the day for instruction and supervision of students; walk: class to the chapel (once a week), walk around the classroom, from classroom to: copier room (frequently), library (occasionally), fields for fire drills (occasionally), to supervise students (daily); occasional bending; frequent reaching when writing on board, while at desk, for phone, to receive student work (this occurs throughout the day). Some climbing of stairs (daily); walking up a slight hill (daily).

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis employees must frequently problem solve, make decisions, supervise students/classroom management, interpret data, grade, organize, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
