SALARY RANGE: $53,680 - $112,672 based on degree and student contact hours
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for teaching High School Social Studies, including World Civilizations, US History, and/or Social Justice. At Mid-Pacific, the Social Studies faculty is responsible for designing an instructional environment that encourages learning, motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to establish and continue a firm foundation to perpetuate the learning experience post-secondary education and/or career opportunities. Essential to this role is the ability to utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents, colleagues, administrators, and community members to support each student's opportunity to learn and grow in educational and life experiences. This position includes active participation in the school's operation to support our unwavering commitment to the principles of deeper learning. This position reports to the High School Assistant Principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teach high school social studies courses using a rich variety of pedagogical strategies.
- Incorporate educational technology into lesson design to enhance student learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
- Teach competencies and skills using standards set by the Social Studies department.
- Instruct students using a wide range of student-centered strategies aligning with the vision and mission of the school.
- Prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines set by the department, school, and external examining bodies.
- Collaborate with other members of the department in developing and updating the Social Studies curriculum and assessment practices.
- Prepare and administer formative and summative assessments of students deeper learning according to the Mid-Pacific Assessment Guidelines.
- Record and post student grades electronically in a timely manner.
- Maintain effective classroom management, liaising with deans and parents as necessary.
- Participate in faculty and departmental meetings and attend professional development workshops and educational conferences.
- Maintain effective and prompt communication with parents and guardians as needed.
- Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities.
- Determine budget needs and purchase equipment and materials for courses taught.

- Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirements: Bachelors Degree in Social Studies, History, or related field from an accredited university or college. At least two years of teaching experience in high school Social Studies and with a diverse student population is strongly preferred. Previous experience with project-based instruction and/or International Baccalaureate preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates with International Baccalaureate and Humanities teaching experiences.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that require frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The employee daily is required to frequently, unless otherwise noted walk to and from classrooms or buildings within five minutes, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds (student journals, papers, books, etc.); arrange student desks, furniture in the classroom as needed; stand and sit throughout the day for instruction and supervision of students; walk: class to the chapel (once a week), walk around the classroom, from classroom to: copier room (frequently), library (occasionally), fields for fire drills (occasionally), to supervise students (daily); occasional bending; frequent reaching when writing on board, while at desk, for phone, to receive student work (this occurs throughout the day). Some climbing of stairs (daily); walking up a slight hill (daily).
