SALARY RANGE: $53,680 - $112,672 based on degree and student contact hours

JOB SUMMARY

Mid-Pacific middle school teachers embody an excitement for teaching middle school students and are committed to supporting the unique needs of developing adolescents including cognitive and social emotional development. As a member of the middle school community, teachers work collaboratively with highly interdisciplinary teams as well as across grade level content areas, requiring teachers to possess a breadth and depth of content knowledge designed to cultivate critical thinking skills and real world applications while integrating technology into the curriculum. With social emotional learning as an integral part of the Middle School, teachers serve as advisors to a group of students, building positive relationships fostered through the leading of advisory program curriculum activities. With content expertise in science and mathematics, the Middle School STEM Teacher provides opportunities for students to think deeply about the world through a multi-perspective lens using an integrated Mathematics and Science curriculum. Essential to the success of the Mid-Pacific STEM program is the capacity to foster relationships with outside partners and Math and Science-based professionals in support of the instructional program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • In alignment with the school’s mission and vision, collaborate and co-create meaningful lessons and assessments with other STEM teachers within and across grade levels as well as project based learning opportunities with grade level team members.
  • Address the needs of diverse learners through the use of various instructional and assessment tools and strategies.
  • Stay abreast of current research and engage in professional development to continually improve teaching practice.
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents, and other members of the Mid Pacific community in support of students' needs.
  • Design and implement lessons and assessments in alignment with Mid Pacific’s Assessment Guidelines.
  • Record and post student grades electronically in a timely manner.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians as needed.
  • Participate in faculty, content, and grade level meetings and attend professional learning development workshops and educational conferences.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to respond effectively.
  • Understand Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Common Core Math Standards, and be able to plan and implement instruction based on their instructional framework.
  • Understand and leverage the use of the digital environment as an effective tool for supporting the needs of today’s learners.
  • Create learning opportunities that enable students to have the experience of achieving expertise by researching, understanding, and developing new knowledge about technology, and their environment, and drawing meaningful connections between the two.
  • Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities as determined by the student activities coordinator, college counselors, and/or class advisors.

SCHOOL SAFETY

  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and/or science from an accredited college or university. A minimum of three years of middle level teaching experience with a diverse student population is strongly preferred. Previous experience with project-based instruction, Carnegie Learning Instructional materials, and/or International Baccalaureate preferred, but not required. Teacher Certification is preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required include close vision.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis employee must frequently problem solve, make decisions, supervise students/classroom management, interpret data, grade, organize, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
