Summary / Objective
The Extruder Technician plays a pivotal role in the production of high-quality film products. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting in the operation of production lines, ensuring the safety and quality of operations, and contributing to the team's success through effective communication and collaboration. With opportunities spanning four progressive classes, this role offers a pathway for professional growth and skill development in plastic extrusion technology.
- Safely and efficiently manage the operation of the extrusion machinery to ensure continuous production of film products according to specified standards.
- Conduct regular checks on the film products for adherence to quality specifications. This includes monitoring product dimensions, strength, and visual quality to ensure they meet or exceed our rigorous standards.
- Remove completed rolls from the production line and securely transport them to designated pallets for further processing.
- Wrap, label, and prepare completed orders for shipping, ensuring that products are safely packaged and accurately documented for delivery.
- Assist in the routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery and the work area to promote a safe and efficient working environment.
- Work closely with team members and supervisors to ensure that production goals are met while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
PPE requirements and Safety Rules
- Eye protection is required everywhere in the plant
- Hearing protection is required everywhere in the plant
- Safety-toed shoes or boots are required everywhere in the plant.
- Cut gloves are required to be worn on the opposite hand you use to hold a knife when cutting.
- The maximum weight allowed to be lifted by one person is 80 pounds. Anything heavier requires the aid of another person, a forklift, a big joe, or roll handlers.
- Face shields must be worn anytime you are over the die during start-up.
Each machine is equipped with multiple safety switches and devices. Although the features are not the same for each machine, they all have safety devices to help protect you. These include pressure-sensitive mats, light curtains, pull cords, and emergency stop buttons.
Competencies
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically in extrusion or a closely related field, is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a team.
- Physical capability to lift up to 80 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- A strong safety awareness with a commitment to following workplace safety procedures.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This job also requires time on the production floor.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, hourly position. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM on a rotating monthly schedule. The work week is based on a seven-day cycle, and workdays vary every other week, with employees working 36 hours and 48 hours, respectively. Some overtime is required.
Education and Experience
1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
