Job Summary

As a Manual Machinist Apprentice, you will be trained in the proper set-up and operation of Lathes, Vertical Boring Mills, Horizontal Boring Mills and Grinders.

Skills & Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of standard Machine Shop practices is preferred, but not required.
• Basic comprehension of blueprints and drawings is preferred, but not required.
• Basic knowledge of measuring instruments is preferred, but not required.
• Obey all safety rules and regulations.
• Advanced level of mechanical aptitude is preferred.
• Ability to fulfill attendance and time requirements.
• Previous forklift and/or overhead crane experience is preferred.
• Positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude.
• Great active listening skills. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Must be dependable and operate with a high-level of integrity.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

• This position reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

• Location is at 2730 Mine and Mill Rd, Lakeland, FL.
• This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Saturday 3:00PM to 11:00PM. Saturdays are required based on shop workload.
• Working environment is in an industrial shop; non-climate controlled and is often times hot / humid. Frequent exposure to moving equipment, machines and shop tools, and other safety-sensitive hazards / risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.
• While performing the duties of this job, you will:
  • Frequently perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Frequently use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.
