Job Summary:
The Street Sweeper Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of street sweeping vehicles used to clean streets, alleys, parking lots, and other paved surfaces. This role requires adherence to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies while operating the vehicle. Operators must complete daily vehicle inspections, maintain accurate records, and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the equipment at all times.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Safely operate street sweeping equipment in accordance with company procedures, local and state laws, and DOT regulations.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; complete and submit Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Maintain all required safety equipment on the vehicle (fire extinguisher, triangles, spill kit, etc.).
Wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ensure sweeping functions (brooms, pickup heads) are operating properly; lift brooms when not in use or in transit.
Maintain proper positioning of the vehicle during operation to avoid hazards and ensure effective sweeping.
Use strobes and 4-way flashers while sweeping.
Clean and maintain the cab and vehicle to ensure cleanliness and visibility.
Follow lockout/tagout procedures when cleaning or servicing equipment.
Maintain positive key control during maintenance and clean-out activities.
Dump hopper contents in designated disposal areas, checking for overhead clearance and ensuring the area is clear.
Report mechanical issues or safety concerns to Dispatch/Supervisor immediately.
Avoid school zones during peak times and minimize unnecessary backing.
Participate in required training, including equipment-specific instructions, safety protocols, and company policies.
Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of:
Street sweeper functions and operations
Safe driving principles, including defensive driving and hazard recognition
Traffic laws and DOT regulations
Lockout/Tagout and Positive Key Control procedures
Company policies and safety protocols
Skills in:
Operating a right-hand drive or rear-engine sweep truck
Maintaining awareness of surroundings, blind spots, and pinch points
Effective communication with Dispatch, Supervisors, and the public
Problem-solving and critical thinking in on-road situations
Keeping accurate inspection and maintenance records
Experience and Education:
Minimum Required:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement
1 year of commercial driving experience preferred
Completion of Street Sweeper Safety Training
