What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Aide - Head Start position at Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency?
Join our Staff Child Care team! The Aide works to support the Teacher and Head Teacher in the agency staff child care program, providing safe and developmentally appropriate care to children of MWVCAA staff, ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age.
This vacancy is for the Woodburn HeadStart Site

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Level 1: Requires High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and experience overseeing children in a volunteer, professional or other capacity.
Level 2: Requires a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one or more of the following:
- Preschool Classroom: A minimum of 240 hours of experience working with any age group, as an Aide 1, with at least 80 hours completed in the center where they are currently employed.
- Infant/Toddler Classroom: A minimum of 240 hours of experience working with infants, as an Aide 1, with at least 80 hours completed in the center where they are currently employed.
- Infant/Toddler Classroom: 50 hours of training specific to infant and toddler care.
- Infant/Toddler Classroom: 25 hours of training specific to working with infants and 120 hours of experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Successful registration with the Office of Child Care's Central Background Registry.
- Driver qualification status is not required for this position.
- Infant/Toddler CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Food Handlers Card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must pass pre-employment physical.
- Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screens.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in the use of computers and related information technologies.
- Ability to exercise patience with children.
- Ability to communicate effectively with young children, staff, and guardians.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
- Supports compliance with Office of Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- Records children's daily attendance and meal counts, in compliance with agency procedures and CACFP regulations.
- Works in partnership with classroom teachers to provide children with individualized care including diapering, bathing (when necessary), feeding and sleeping.
- Prepares materials for and conducts planned activities suitable for each child's age and developmental level, under the direction of the Teacher or Site Director
- Works with classroom team to set up classroom environment, and maintain the environment by regularly changing/rotating materials, supplies and props, utilizing developmentally appropriate practices for infants/toddlers.
- Maintains a spontaneous and flexible attitude in meeting children's individual needs, encouraging children to verbalize their own feelings and ideas.
- Participates in family style meals and leading conversation at the table to enhance the social and emotional growth of children.
- Conducts, in the classroom, monthly emergency drills to prepare children and staff for fires, earthquakes, and lockdown situations per licensing rules.
- Supports the team by providing coverage for breaks, lunches, and illness.
- Participates in training as required to meet OCC Licensing requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no supervisory duties in this position.

- Required to frequently reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Physical ability to quickly evacuate children from the classroom in an emergency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Mostly indoor classroom environment.
- Frequent outdoor supervision of children and monitoring pick up/drop off children.
- Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, creative substances such as paints.
- Occasional exposure to body fluids/biohazards (such as saliva, vomit and urine)
