As the primary academic resource for MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) students, the Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) - Academic Success Center (ASC) prides itself in helping students gain the necessary college success skills to excel in and outside of their classes. Students have access to peer and professional tutoring, student success coaching, academic advising (for select professional and graduate programs), accommodations, testing, and student success programsall at no cost to them. The Center's ASC Tutor Development Program is a College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified program. Meeting with trained and certified tutors often means that students benefit from a higher-grade point average (GPA) than students who do not utilize ASC services.
The ASC team is looking forward to welcoming an ASC Student Assistant. The student assistant will work up to 20 hours per week starting immediately upon hire. The position is scheduled to continue as funding is available each year. Compensation is $12.00 per hour. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to :
- Becoming familiar with the Center's mission and outcomes.
- Providing evening supervision of ASC (3-4 hours a night).
- Energetically representing ASC and actively engaging with students and families at outreach days (Pioneer Days, New Student Orientation, etc.) so that students can imagine themselves excelling with the help of their new ASC support team.
- Conscientiously assisting with the organization and facilitation of ASC programs and events.
- Assisting full-time ASC team members with the planning and development of the annual persistence summit.
- Developing a working knowledge and understanding of how to use the Center's tracking system, Accudemia, to sign students in and out for their visit for services (tutoring, workshops, student success coaching, etc.).
- Creating social media content and maintaining a consistent marketing schedule.
- In the absence of the ASC Administrative Assistant, positively greeting visitors to the center, answering the phone, and funneling inquiries to the appropriate ASC team member.
- Assist with projects as assigned by the ASC Administrative Assistant and ASC professional staff.
- Other duties based on the student's knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
Qualifications : The ideal candidate would have strong relational management (interpersonal skills) and computer skills as well as the ability to communicate well orally and in writing. Members of the ASC team are required to maintain a high degree of professionalism through dress, actions, and communications with faculty, staff, and students. At least one semester as an MNU student is required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements :
Work is performed in a normal office setting. Travel between buildings on campus is required; occasional weekend and evening work during given periods and travel to other locations for training can be expected i.e. conferences, etc. Deadlines, disturbances of workflow, and / or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.
