Position Purpose Under general supervision, installs, repairs, tests, maintains and troubleshoots plant electrical equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic and systems. Applies theory in electrical maintenance of electrical systems, electrical circuits, electrical equipment and programmable logic controllers. Performs work alone or with other employees depending on the character and nature of the work assignments.
Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner that protects themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury. As requested, handles preliminary work arrangements such as work management systems, parts availability, shop inventory, maintains/develops bill of materials, etc. Works from schematics, blueprints, diagrams, computer system and specifications. Updates and corrects diagrams and documentation. Uses calibration equipment and test equipment. Uses hand/power tools and other process equipment as necessary to perform assigned duties. Works with vendors, factory representatives, engineers and other plant/company personnel as directed. May design and install new electrical systems when assigned. Installs, wires and may design programs, troubleshoots plant and coal handling programmable logic controllers. Installs, maintains, repairs, troubleshoots plant interlock equipment and coal handling controls. Types of equipment include: switches, solid state controls, relays, switches, contactors, indicating lights, coal handling equipment, soot blowing, interplant communication systems, coal handling programmable logic controllers, etc. Installs, repairs, cleans and troubleshoots motors, motor controllers and motor controller circuitry. Installs and maintains plant lighting. Maintains and cleans power distribution system, motor control centers, high voltage switchgear and 125V/DC switchgear. Installs cable and conduit. Uses an arc welder to attach brackets, supports and boxes. Maintains and troubleshoots precipitator high voltage controls and rapping/vibrating systems. Clears precipitator grounds. Maintains and troubleshoots heating ventilating and air condition, transformers, motors, breakers, protective relaying. Inspects, replaces, troubleshoots generator brushes and excitation equipment. Maintains generator excitation controls and equipment. Calibrates, installs, repairs and troubleshoots sensing devices such as thermocouples, pressure switches, temperature switches, gauges, level switches, transmitters, etc. Inspects, repairs, troubleshoots power tools. Calibrates, installs, repairs and troubleshoots pneumatic and hydraulic equipment such as actuators, control value, etc. May initiate work requests. Procures incidental tools and supplies in conjunction with their assigned work, from the storeroom/tool room where applicable during after hours when the level of work does not require a storekeeper. Maintains work areas in a neat, orderly and safe condition; cleans up after completion of work and properly disposes of debris. Leads, trains and instructs other employees in their work.
Must be a journeyman electrical technician or electrician.
