The objectives of the Regional Commission are to develop, promote, and assist in establishing coordinated and comprehensive planning in Georgia; to provide local governments, on both an individual and regional basis, with professional technical assistance to improve local government service programs; to provide information technology-based services; to manage nonprofit corporations created by the Regional Commission in accordance with Georgia law and contracting with a network of agencies to provide direct services to the elderly in the Middle Georgia region.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Development Specialist to join our team. Our ideal candidate will provide essential assistance to local governments in areas such as grant writing and administration, economic development, personnel management, effective governance, transportation, hazard mitigation, and community planning.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide a range of technical assistance to local governments, including administration, research, project management, and the development of innovative solutions.
- Support local governments in developing and maintaining personnel policies, procedures, job descriptions, and pay plans.
- Research potential grant and loan sources to find the best possible funding for projects.
- Collaborate with local elected and appointed officials to prepare and administer grant and loan applications for public infrastructure, solid waste, community and economic development, public safety, recreation, and other program areas.
- Create proposals/solicitations for work on various projects on behalf of local governments.
- Conduct research and develop policies and local legislation.
- Support local governments in the facilitation and creation of special projects, including housing needs assessments and economic development strategies.

The Person
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university, and 1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of grant programs and funding sources from public, private, and non-profit sectors.
- Knowledge of the day-to-day functions of local, state, and federal governments.
- Functional knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend professional journals, government regulations, reports, and business correspondences.
- Ability to decipher federal and state regulations and instructions.
- Ability to successfully work on multiple projects at one time.
