Job Summary
This position provides clinical supervision to Middle Georgia State University Respiratory Therapy students placed in area healthcare facilities and laboratories. It is a part-time clinical instructor position.
Responsibilities
Instructing (80%) -
Responsible for the direct supervision of Respiratory Therapy students in the clinical setting.
Provides and/or coordinates clinical teaching activities in the hospital/clinical setting to include student assignments, clinical supervision, and student evaluation.
Participates in skill lab demonstrations and practice.
Provides and coordinates clinical teaching activities in the community as needed.
Contributes to a collegial and collaborative work environment.
Works with students in patient care areas to assist them in meeting their clinical objectives.
Mentors students regarding clinical progression.
Monitoring (15%) -
Evaluates students on professional behavior (appearance/dress code, attitude, cooperation, communication skills).
Plans and conducts regular student conferences.
Engages and nurtures students in and beyond the classroom.
Ensures that students are meeting their clinical objectives.
Completes and collates clinical evaluations of students at their clinical site.
Regularly discusses and reports student progress to Director of Clinical Education (DCE).
Properly documents student absences, clinical incidences, disciplinary problems, and any changes in clinical site activities and availability.
Utilizes the MGA Respiratory Therapy clinical assessment system for time clocking and evaluation.
Other Duties (5%) -
Adheres to assigned clinical and laboratory schedules.
Maintains professional work relationships with community and clinical sites through attending inservice training, updating policies and procedures, and by providing student lists to clinical agencies.
Serves on the Respiratory Therapy Program advisory committee.
Participates in professional workshops, conferences, and other educational offerings to promote growth, broaden knowledge and skills, and to improve the quality of Respiratory Care education.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree required
Other Required Qualifications
RRT credential
Current state RCP license
Current AARC membership
Must meet all regulatory and corporate qualifications to hold the position
Must attend all orientation and professional development as required
Position requires travel to clinical sites
Preferred Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Master of Science degree preferred
Other Required Qualifications
Current CPR certification; ACLS, NRP, and PALS preferred.
Preferred Experience
Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in respiratory therapy preferred.
Experience in adult, neonatal, and pediatric critical care preferred.
Prior teaching experience preferred.

English reading, writing, and speaking skills at the native level of fluency.
Ability to utilize technology and innovative pedagogy and andragogy to enhance teaching and learning.

Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
Ability to drive to clinical sites.
Ability to work in the clinical setting as a respiratory therapist for 8-12 hours as scheduled.
