About Middle J Farms, LLC:
Middle J Farms, LLC is a first-generation farm based 11 miles south of Roggen, Colorado, or five miles southeast of Prospect Valley, Colorado. Our farm encompasses 8,500 acres in four counties, spanning from Keenesburg, CO to Last Chance, CO. We produce an array of crops including both conventional and organic wheat, corn, milo, millet, and feed.
Middle J Farms also operates a custom farming business, providing custom harvesting, planting/seeding, tilling, and trucking to other local producers. This custom business generally adds several thousand acres of irrigated and dryland operations to our farm every year.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous farm or agricultural related experience
- Knowledge and experience of heavy equipment operation
- Moderate equipment maintenance experience
- Working knowledge of agricultural chemistries, seeds, and fertilizers
- General understanding of the financial aspects of crop budgets
- Currently holds a private applicators license or willing to obtain within three months of employment
- Knowledge of general safety practices and procedures, especially as it relates to farms and heavy equipment
- Valid Driver’s License
- Fluent English speaking
- No drug use
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants with sprayer operation experience and high level of chemical/fertilizer application knowledge
- Fundamental first aid skills or willingness to accept training
- CDL
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely and effectively operate all farm equipment, including but not limited to: sprayers, tractors, combines, trucks, forklifts, skidsteers, grain handling systems, seeding and harvest operations.
- Understand and operate all precision agriculture technology and effectively use these tools to operate equipment.
- Maintain field-to-office records.
- Complete daily and routine maintenance of equipment as well as maintenance above routine repair. Equipment should be ready to operate the next day or problems discovered and reported. Safety is a top priority.
- Track maintenance history of all farm equipment and advise farm manager on equipment needs and/or recommendations.
- Practice and/or lead in routine purchasing authority for parts, supplies, and maintenance.
- Conduct farm base maintenance, including but not limited to general yard work, mowing, cleaning, and upkeep to maintain a clean, safe, and pleasant work environment at all of our farm “bases”.
- Maintain a clean working space, company vehicle, and farm equipment.
Working Conditions:
Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and cold, and in/around heavy equipment and machinery. Comfortability of working in a mechanic shop environment. Working outside of regular business hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary. Periods of long hours are a part of this operation, especially during planting and harvest times. The farm technician must understand the time commitment needs of crop management both within Middle J Farms and our custom farming operation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more. Comfortability of being on your feet for extended periods of time. Tolerate hot/cold weather and dusty working conditions.
