The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Strategic Initiatives plays a pivotal role in driving the execution of mission-critical initiatives, improving operational efficiency, and contributing to the strategic direction of Middleburg Communities. Reporting directly to the CEO and working with the leadership team, this individual will help translate organizational vision into actionable strategies and lead the execution of high-priority projects.

This role is ideal for a data-driven, results-oriented leader with expertise in financial modeling, data analysis, and operational execution, and experience in leveraging strong analytical and quantitative skills to inform decision-making, optimize performance, and drive sustainable growth.

While this position will be based in our Charlotte, NC office, it will require frequent travel with an expectation to travel up to 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Optimization

  • Support the CEO and Executive Team: Collaborate closely with the CEO and senior leaders to develop and execute data-driven strategies that optimize business performance, enhance growth, and identify new opportunities.
  • Execution of Strategic Projects: Manage cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and efficient execution within specific departments such as investments, development, construction, and technology.
  • KPI Tracking and Analysis: Partner with leadership to define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and assist in providing analytical insights for operational improvements and business strategy.

Financial & Quantitative Analysis

  • Financial Modeling & Scenario Analysis: Conduct detailed financial modeling and analysis to inform day-to-day operational decisions, supporting both short-term execution and long-term growth strategies.
  • Business Performance Assessment: Support the evaluation of operating company performance and capital allocation strategies, providing data-driven insights to leadership.
  • Reporting and Dashboards: Develop and present regular reports, dashboards, and key insights to help the leadership team assess business performance and refine strategic initiatives.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with finance teams to support the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes with actionable quantitative insights.

Execution & Operational Efficiency

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to drive operational excellence, cost efficiencies, and process improvements.
  • Identify and implement automation, technology, and business intelligence tools to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Act as a problem-solver and change agent, ensuring that company-wide initiatives are executed with precision.
  • Oversee special projects that require a combination of analytical rigor, leadership, and execution discipline.

Executive Communication & Leadership Alignment

  • Supporting Executive Communication: Serve as a key communicator between the CEO, senior leadership, and operational teams, ensuring strategic initiatives are effectively communicated and understood.
  • Presentation Preparation: Prepare executive-level presentations and reports, providing insights on key business decisions and strategic initiatives.
  • Meetings and Follow-Through: Help facilitate and lead executive meetings and ensure action items are addressed, tracking progress on critical initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and strategic problem-solving throughout the organization.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a quantitative field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years in a highly analytical and execution-focused role, such as management consulting, investment banking, private equity, corporate strategy, or real estate industry leadership.
  • Proven track record in managing strategic projects, business analysis, and driving operational execution.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation analysis, and real estate investment principles.
  • Military service is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.), and SQL is a plus.
  • Strong experience with CRM systems, business intelligence platforms, and process automation technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a focus on execution.
  • Exceptional critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex data-driven insights clearly.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
