Job Description:
Title: Adjunct Instructor - Philosophy, Ethics, & Humanities
Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty
Department: Philosophy, Ethics, and General Humanities
Reports to: Dean of Liberal Arts
Date: March 7, 2025
General Summary: The faculty member will be trained in a particular tradition of philosophical thought (analytic, continental, or other); they will have experience thinking trans-disciplinarily, and in ways that ground the history of ideas in our current historical moment; they will be a flexible, culturally aware, equitably responsible individual who is committed to diverse and inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom, and they will exhibit a commitment to continuous professional improvement. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching Ethics, Philosophy, and other lower-division Humanities courses on our campuses in Bedford and Lowell, as well as online.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach one or more sections in ethics, philosophy, and humanities
- Develop and use student-centered pedagogies that promote success for all students and lead to equitable course outcomes
- Develop and use meaningful assessment strategies
- Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities
- Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom
- Use Blackboard Learning Management System to post syllabi, assignments, and grades
- Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Master's degree in Philosophy, Ethics, Humanities, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in a variety of areas in Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities
- Experience with a variety of instructional methods
- Demonstrated ability to work collegially with faculty from different disciplines
- Commitment to continuous professional improvement
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in the larger communities they serve.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative instructional approaches such as the effective use of technology including online courses, civic/service-learning, and career integrated learning
- Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of assessment strategies
- Bilingual skills a plus
Additional Information:
Salary Range: The salary assigned will be determined by the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement per credit salary chart.
Location: Lowell or Bedford campus as needed.
Expected Start Date: Fall 2025.
