Job Description:
Title: Student Scribe
Unit: Student Employment
Department: Student Access and Support Services
Reports to: Director of Student Access and Support Services
Date: August 1, 2024
General Summary: Scribes provide necessary in-class support to fellow students eligible for a scribing accommodation. A scribe provides support only for direct classwork on class days that the student is in attendance. Homework assistance and tutoring are not the responsibility of the scribe.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Producing detailed and accurate transcription notes from lectures and providing those notes in a timely manner
- Transcribing, verbatim, dictation by the student in completing in-class activities
- Providing assistance in handling materials for in-class activities, where required
- Performing only tasks as assigned in the scribe role and maintaining boundaries and professionalism at all times
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled student of Middlesex Community College
- Completion of at least 12 credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA and current enrollment in college-level courses
- Demonstrated proficiency with note taking
- Legible handwriting
- Proficiency in use of computer and mobile applications
- Strong command of spoken and written English, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to attend, in full and for the entire semester, all classes for which scribing is contracted
- Punctuality for classes and related scribing situations (labs, etc.)
- Understanding of and adherence to all confidentiality standards of the college and the Student Access and Support Services department
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good working knowledge of the course topic(s) being scribed
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $17.00/hour in accordance with the College's Part Time Wage Schedule.
Location: Lowell and/or Bedford Campus as assigned
Hours: up to 10 hours per week, schedule to be determined by scribe availability and courses assigned
Expected Start Date: September 3, 2024
