What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Veterinary Assistant / Technician / CVT position at Middlesex County Animal Hospital?
Here at Middlesex County Animal Hospital, The veterinary technician position (non-credentialed) is an advanced technical position which works directly with the veterinary team, patients and clients. You must be able to work in a fast paced environment and possess a positive "can do" attitude. Below are main (but not limited to) job duties of the credentialed veterinary technician
- Is the communication facilitator between the doctor and clients/ additional hospital staff
- Collects and relays accurate patient information to the doctor in a timely manner
- Provides complete and professional medical charting and documentation
- Assisting the doctor with follow ups and reminders for their patient
- Ensures the proper services/procedures are provided to each patient
- Educates clients thoroughly based on doctor recommendations
- Checks doctor emails and phone messages
- Administering vaccines, medications, and treatments per the doctor’s recommendations
- Has strong animal restraint techniques
- Ensures doctors recommended laboratory testing is collected and sent out properly and results are received
- Ability to relay information between clients and doctors efficiently via email or phone
- Ability to collect laboratory samples (blood via venipuncture, fecal, urine via cystocentesis, skin, ear, etc)
- Provides accurate microscope interpretation (hematology, urine, ears, skin, fecal)
- Pre-medicating, inducing, intubating, vital sign monitoring, and recovery of patients under GA (understands normal and abnormal’s of objective vital sign measurements)
- Ability to place IVC’s
- Knows what is most to least important throughout the day and keeps the doctors on track and on time
- Builds rapport with doctors patients and clients
- Creating accurate estimates and charges appropriately for services /products/procedures
- Is able to work independently and solve routine problems based on strong familiarity with doctor recommendations and protocols
- Takes ownership of patient care and “treats patients like they are their own”
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Greater than 1 year experience working as a veterinary assistant or technician preferred
- An associates or bachelors degree in related fields is preferred but not required
- Must have excellent reading, writing and math skills
- Must have excellent client communication skills
- Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and work well in a team setting
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.). Should be able to lift 40lbs on own.
- Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent or squatting position
- Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
