We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Chronic Absenteeism Specialist to join our team. You will specialize in working with students who have chronic absenteeism issues. Your primary role will be to address the underlying factors contributing to absenteeism, provide support to students and their families, and implement strategies to improve attendance rates.
Responsibilities:
-Identify students with chronic absenteeism and conduct thorough assessments of their individual situations.
-Collaborate with students, families, school staff, and community resources to develop personalized attendance improvement plans.
-Conduct home visits or meetings with parents/guardians to understand the barriers to attendance and provide support and resources.
-Provide individual and group counseling to students to address emotional, social, or behavioral issues that may contribute to absenteeism.
-Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive environment for students.
-Implement intervention programs and strategies to address chronic absenteeism, such as mentoring, incentives, or educational workshops.
-Monitor attendance records, track progress, and maintain accurate documentation of interventions and outcomes.
-Collaborate with community organizations, social services, and healthcare providers to access additional support for students and their families.
-Stay up-to-date with research, best practices, and legal requirements related to chronic absenteeism and student support services.
-Provide training and workshops for staff, parents, and students to raise awareness and understanding of chronic absenteeism and its impact.
-Advocate for students' rights and work towards eliminating systemic barriers to attendance and academic success.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or counseling, or a related field.
-Experience working with students who have chronic absenteeism or similar challenges.
-Knowledge of social work principles, counseling techniques, and intervention strategies.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with students, families, and school personnel.
-Ability to conduct assessments, develop intervention plans, and evaluate outcomes.
-Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students and their families.
-Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect students and families to appropriate services.
-Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
-Familiarity with educational systems and policies.
-Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.
