Position Summary
The Cash Processor performs duties which assist the cash office with cash management functions through daily reconciliation of deposit transactions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under general supervision
- Posts payments both manually and electronically to respective patient accounts - Matches electronic fund transfers with remittance advice to ensure payments have been received and posts the payments using electronic remittance files or manually, if needed.
- Daily reconciliation of cash, remote deposits, credit card, Lockbox, and other electronic payment activity between 3rd party processors, banks, and billing system-Ensures that all payments posted balance against bank deposits with finance department using a combination of reports and checks and balances.
- Reviews and scans checks in order to prepare remote bank deposit- Uses a remote desktop scanning tool to remotely deposit checks into bank account. Also prepares cash deposit to be brought to bank via courier.
- Receives and records deposits through the Cash Office from various sites within Middlesex Hospital and physician offices-Accounts for and tracks all cash/checks received from various departments within the health system and prepares for bank deposit
- Balances cash drawer and petty cash daily, with discrepancies being addressed with supervisor/manager- Counts and tracks all petty cash disbursements and ensures petty cash drawer is always balanced. Also counts all cash used for payments throughout the day balances and matches receipts and deposit slips.
- Processes credit card payments for patients on accounts and prepares credit card reports for daily posting- Assists patients at the cash office window to make payments on their outstanding hospital balances. Runs morning reports to capture all previous days credit cards transactions and ensures everything has posted correctly to patient accounts.
- Maintains and reconciles detail logs to support payment postings- Uses a google spreadsheet which is shared with finance and details all previous days deposits to be matched against bank deposits.
- Performs follow-up and communicates with Business Office, Finance and Billing departments to resolve discrepancies
- Researches payment discrepancies and contacts appropriate banks, customers, and internal accounting staff when necessary
- Researches and calls insurance companies as needed to complete payment postings when patient information is missing
- Files and maintains all corresponding paperwork for internal scanning department- Keeps daily folder of all reports and remittance used for posting payments and gives to scanning dept. so information can get scanned in to patient accounts.
- Distributes petty cash requests according to guidelines- Adheres to petty cash policy to ensure pay out on approved services.

Minimum Qualifications
- Strong computer skills required
- Two years of banking or cash processing experience
- Ability to work quickly and accurately
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work extra hours as needed within the department
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work and focus in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team member with minimum supervision
