About the Position
Middlesex Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team. As an integral part of the patient care team, you will perform clinical duties under the direction of the Practice Manager and assist Providers in ensuring timely and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients to the practice and escort them to exam rooms, introducing yourself and explaining the purpose of the visit.
- Interview patients to verify their reason for visiting, obtain medical information, measure vital signs, height, and weight, and document all patient information obtained in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to policies and procedures.
- Confirm and record allergies, current medications, strength, frequency, refills required, and pharmacy of choice, as well as assure that all documentation, results, reports pertinent to the visit are available to the provider for review with the patient.
- Assist Providers with patient exams and procedures, perform phlebotomy, collect blood and other specimens, label and prepare them for delivery to the lab, and document these procedures in the EHR.
- Perform routine in-office laboratory tests, document the results in the EHR, and prepare treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked, and cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
- Manage patient messages (telephone encounters) as delegated by licensed clinical staff/providers, prepare prescription refill documents for Provider review and signature, and maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and providers.
- Schedule patient appointments, prepare patient referrals/authorization for specialist and hospital services, and assist with review and preparation of Home Healthcare Certifications and other documents (lab orders, diagnostics, etc.) as requested.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Medical Assisting Certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year experience working with electronic health records
- 1 year office-based physician practice experience
