Position Summary
The Registered Clinical Dietitian (RD) plans, delivers and directs the nutritional care of patients in accordance with allied health professional’s diagnoses, while complying with the requirements of regulatory agencies. The dietitian functions as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate nutritional care plans.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under limited supervision:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations and assessments of inpatient’s nutritional status, screening for potential nutrition risk.
- Have knowledge of various diseases and conditions including, but not limited to: cardiology, oncology, respiratory compromised/intubated, surgical, renal, GI compromise, bariatric, malnourished, disordered eating and psychiatric conditions.
- Able to evaluate medical record to obtain appropriate information to provide accurate and comprehensive nutrition assessment. Develop and implement nutrition care plans, based on assessment of nutritional needs.
- Assess providers orders and provide input/recommendations on nutrition support patients.
- Conduct Peer Reviews to assess for timely and appropriate care of nutritionally compromised patients.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team regarding care plan and nutrition interventions; attend daily interdisciplinary rounds on assigned unit.
- Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families on their prescribed diets.
- Ability to evaluate patient progress towards reaching established goals and ability to identify and adjust interventions to help meet goals during inpatient stay.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or related field.
- Hold active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian (or have coursework and field work complete to be deemed Registered Dietitian Eligible, RDE, by CDR)
- Must hold current licensure from the State of Connecticut as a Certified-Dietitian/Nutritionist.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in Nutrition Care Process
- Proficient in nutrition support calculations for both enteral and parenteral nutrition
- Have knowledge in, or be able to learn/perform, Nutrition Focused Physical Examinations
- Familiar with and able to navigate an electronic medical record
