Description
Purpose :
The purpose of this document is to provide a brief narrative about each Summer Academy position , so that interested candidates can make an informed decision as to whether to apply. Please be aware, the Academy contract strictly prohibits extended staff absences during the summer. Below are the 2025 program specific details :
PD week will be Monday June 16th- Thursday June 19th
First day : June 23th
Last day : July 31st (Thursday)
July 3rd off
Summer School Times : 8-12pm Monday-Thursday weekly
Elementary / Middle Level Reading Interventionists (2) : For the 2023 Academy programming, we are hiring 2 Reading Interventionists. The Reading Interventionist is a co-teacher (one who delivers small group targeted instruction inside the core / classroom), while at the same time assists in progress monitoring reading growth
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications :
Valid Wisconsin teaching certificate (grades 1-4); Licensure must be posted on DPI to be considered)
Commitment to social justice and culturally and linguistically responsive practices
Commitment to teaching the whole child (academics and social emotional learning) with an assets-based lens
Ability to embed differentiation in daily instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of students
Commitment to collaboration and reflection within a school community dedicated to continuous improvement
Commitment to continued development of cultural competence
Ability to adjust instruction based on formative assessment data
Ability to communicate effectively to form partnerships with families.
Ability to reflect on practice
Bilingual candidates (Spanish / English) are strongly preferred
Summer School Teacher Job Responsibilities (grades 1-8)
Early Summer (Before Summer School Starts) :
Prep work / staff meetings the week of June 17 (as assigned)
During Summer School :
Work with summer school colleagues to establish a welcoming, assets-based community.
Implement summer school curriculum and philosophy
Collaborate with colleagues and families to support students who are struggling to attend regularly or are struggling with engagement
End of summer :
Ensure assessments and data collection are completed in a timely manner.
